Inspirations

The majority of these characters are inspired by a real life counterpart who participated in the 2008 Presidential campaign in one way or another. Top Row: Hildegard (Hillary Clinton), King William (Bill Clinton), Chelsea (Chelsea Clinton), Marcus (Mark Penn), Uma (Huma Abedin), Barlen (Joe Biden), and Maboa (Barack Obama). To flesh out and give Once Upon A 2008 life, the supporting cast is essential. Uma for instance refers to a mysterious figure within the Clinton campaign, Huma Abedin. In real life, she is Clinton's travel secretary. For this story, the role hasn't changed much, but the woman certainly has. The character Marcus is inspired by a real person as well; one time Clinton strategist and pollster, Mark Penn. The only person who is genuinely fictional is Donna. She is the everywoman in this story who gets wrapped up in the excitement and promise of the new tomorrow spoken by the candidates.
